It's Time To Be Your Own Hype Woman

Updated: Dec 14, 2019

I have often marvelled at performers like Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Cardi B. Not only for their success as female performers but more for the support systems they have dotted around them. Because you see, there really is nothing wrong with having people around you who will toot your horn and let everyone know what’s what. Performers around the world are known for having what we call a ‘Hype Woman/man’ who shouts them out continually keeps the crowd hyped and the performer delivering their best at all times.

But, what if I told you that having your own hype woman isn’t only a luxury that is reserved for the rich and famous. In fact, we all have the power to create one for ourselves and for our own lives. Too often, we feel that it is a sign of an over-inflated ego to celebrate our successes and what we bring to the table for fear of coming across like we think we are too good.

Here’s a question for you though, when was the last time you got paid to process someone's opinion of you? When did the validation and acceptance of others help increase your bank balance? I can tell you that I know not one woman who has found this to be the case and you dear slayer are no exception. So the truth of the matter is this. It is 100% up to you to take control of your own life and to become your own cheerleader and your own ‘hype woman’.

Having worked within the charity sector as an Employment and Development manager for nearly 8 years, one thing I have learned from speaking with women from diverse backgrounds, ages and career paths is that too many women are afraid to celebrate their own successes. They feel too embarrassed to shout from the rooftops that they are amazing, dope as f**k and know what they want. They feel too afraid to give themselves a pat on the back for overcoming a particular barrier or stumbling block and they down want to come across like they are up their own arse.

Here’s the thing. We have all heard the popular saying that ‘Life is short’. But when was the last time you really thought about this. How often can you keep on putting off what you want to do, and pushing aside how you really feel to suit the next person or to leave it for another day before you eventually find; you have no more tomorrow’s left.

If you have done something that you have never done before like completed a course, or run a half marathon, or lost 10 Lbs or stopped smoking. It could be anything and everything, small or magnitude. Tell yourself well done. Run around the house and dance and celebrate your greatness and why you rock! Congratulate yourself on how good you look today, or how flawless your makeup is, or how well you delivered that presentation at work.

You brain is not only a muscle that needs to be worked, but it is more vitally a part of you that needs to be continually programmed with positive messages about yourself and who better to process and communicate them than you?

I’m encouraging as many women as possible to make this month the month that you begin to really start evaluating everything you have achieved and recognising just how far you have come. For many of you, you might not be where you want to be yet; and that’s okay. We are each a work in progress. Saying that, in order to aspire to higher heights propping yourself up from time to time and simply saying well done can make all the difference in the world.

To help you along your way, we've created the ‘Be Your Own Hype Woman' worksheet for you to print out and complete as part of your personal development journey. We would love to hear back from you to find out how this process has helped you so please do drop us a message on our socials or email us at: womenwhoslayintl@gmail.com
