The Importance of 'To Do' Lists and 3 Reasons Why You Need To Use Them

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

We have all been taught that writing goals for our personal and professional development is a must for our overall success but not enough emphasis is given to 'To Do Lists' and why they can be an ultimate factor behind you getting s**t done or not. Check out our 3 key reasons why we think you need to adopt the practise of writing daily 'to do' lists, today!

When on the path of working towards achieving a goal, it is important that you break down the necessary steps you need to take to make them happen. However, what can often take place upon writing them down is that we don't revisit them and remind ourselves of what we need to do to help move the initial goal on paper a reality.

If we don't review them regularly and remind ourselves of our intentions; they eventually become words on a page and nothing more.

'To-do lists' enable you to keep your goals on track and take steps each day to help them bloom into fruition.

Increase Your Focus

Writing down the actions you need to take each day helps you to remain focused on the task at hand. The action of writing down what you need to do daily, acts as a continual reminder of what you need to achieve. The list will not decrease unless you do the necessary work, push aside the urge to procrastinate and tackle them one at a time. #focus #careers #lifestyle

Tip 1: Try to set your 'to do' list to a set limit. i.e setting 4-6 tasks a day and no more. Too often people allow to-do lists to overwhelm them, by enforcing a number count and not overstretching yourself you will not only get more done but will feel more accomplished in the process.

Give you a renewed sense of direction

With the everyday hustle and bustle of life, it is quite easy to become deflated and not know exactly where we are headed. 'To-do' lists act as a positive reminder that you have things to achieve and by ticking them off and working through them you're left with not only a feeling of personal satisfaction but it will also act as a spring board for listing the next steps which need to be fulfilled, ultimately creating a newfound send of direction and much needed structure.

Improve your organisation skills Nothing makes you more organised than to do lists as it is a process of elimination and compiling your objectives in a bullet point form allows you to quite quickly tackles the tasks one at a time, similarly to a shopping list. Once you're able to work in this way, this skill can be transferred to other areas of your life.

If you haven't already enlisted the 'To do lists' into your day to day life, choose today to start using them and be prepared to become more productive than ever.
